What is the difference between a colon cleanse and laxative?

A laxative simply stimulates the descending colon (bowel) to release its contents. Herbs, epsom salts and some chemicals are commonly used to induce a bowel motion.

A colon cleanse is process in which the entire colon (ascending, descending and transverse) is thoroughly cleaned. Good colon cleanses use herbs, or oxygen to get rid of toxins and leftover solid matter that is stuck in the colon.

A laxative will help you move your bowels. A colon cleanse cleans your bowels so there is nothing left in there.
